Dallas Buyer's Club Part 2. And, Off You Go To Keep Austin Weird

I did actually see Dallas Buyer's Club. Now, we all know that not all Dallasites wear cowboy hats, as the character Mr. Woodroof does in the movie. And, there were not a whole lot of scenes that were shot in Dallas. (There were none).

Here's the positive spin:
When I first heard about the premise of the movie I was skeptical. Greatly diminishing this was the way the movie makes you actually care about the characters, while also making you gasp and gape in surprise, during other parts. (Did you need a reminder that there is always more to learn about AIDS and HIV?) Matthew McConaughey's (yes, Uvalde, TX's son) talent shows through, and Jared Leto is an adorable--NOT adorkable--transvestite. Off you go, to see it.

Two more items:
The fun fun fun fest started today in Austin, TX. Pick a day, any day, then pay 79.00, and go.
How else to keep Austin weird?
Also:
Visit with Latin crooner Alejandro Fernandez November 29 at the Verizon Theatre. Your Mexican side will never forgive you if you don't go.

Go Clubbing? At The Dallas Buyer's Club

If you want to see the hometown hero of Uvalde, TX and a former star of My So-Called Life, prance yourself over to a theatre to see Dallas Buyer's Club on November 8. This is the opening day...

Email Antics. And, The Oak Cliff Film Fest. It's Not Too Late. Oh, Yeah It Is

I have a friend who suggested divorcing yourself from your devices for a while. (It means electronic devices, including phone and computer).
This was a while ago. In light of this, I am trying various ways to not allow myself to be an email addict.

Two small suggestions (And yes, divorce yourself now... please).

I try to not check email on my phone, if I am near a computer. I've been minimizing the emails I send from my phone.

On Saturday and Sunday, does email need to be checked 3 times a day? I think not.

On to:
You have missed the second (annual) run of the Oak Cliff Film Festival. This was at the Texas Theatre. It ended on Sunday. However, you can catch the third run next year.
Then you, and only you, can say, "I was hanging out at the OCFF."

Hey Bathrobe: I'll Meet You In The Driveway. And 3 Documentaries It Would Be Shameful Not To See

Since it is likely that only .001 percent of this blog will be read, I'll make it easy for you:

I saw someone in their bathrobe the other day. In front of their house, in the morning. The man was walking back into his house, when I saw him, including the flip-flops.
Technically, there is nothing wrong with this.
However, in actuality, I could not help thinking: what was happening outside of his house, to make him go outside in his bathrobe??

Here are 3 documentaries I highly recommend you do not miss. All were screened recently at a documentary film festival in Denton, TX.
Eleanore And The Timekeeper. This is about a 91-year-old mother and her mentally challenged son. Gosh I just hope I make it to 91.

Bat City USA. It discusses the work of biologist Merlin Tuttle. I've heard of the bats and the Congress Avenue bridge (in Austin, TX), but never seen them. Sounds batty to me. Watch the trailer here.

Dinner At The No-Go's. The filmmakers ignored those silly travel advisories, and ate dinner with the locals.

A Cowboy, Glasses, And What's Hot And What's Not: Completely Unscreened

This cowboy

works at the State Fair. He helps to direct traffic and serves as an Information Specialist (well, that is what I call it). Even though there are thousands of cars that pass by every day, he is nice to everyone. It can be a challenge. (I do not know his name).
Big Tex would be pleased.

I was wearing my glasses while walking earlier. Just walking outside briefly.
My glasses are big and clunky.
Everyone looks slightly blurry, when I have them on--just a little drawback.
I saw a neighbor coming down the street. My first thought was, "is she going to make fun of my glasses?" I don't know why the self-consciousness was there.
Just lovely.

A continuing and not necessarily ending segment, What's Hot/Not:
What's Hot:
Going to the movies
Looking up directions before you leave the house or apt.(Or, using your phone if you must).

What's Not:
Over-texting pretty much anyone (These are some quick rules. I'm sure that more exist).

Not tipping at any place or during any activity that requires a tip. (Again, some rules of etiquette. However, I just found them. You may find a better site).

Ads that state they offer "Part Time" work for "students," and then state that they are for customer service or telemarketing.
