Jalapeno Half, Part 1

I ran the jalapeno half marathon in Fort Worth, Texas.

After the race...
Some people whined on Facebook that they had to walk to their cars because the shuttle was not working.

The walk was no more than a few blocks, maybe about 7 blocks at the most.

However, I say: If you can't walk a few blocks after you've just run 13.1 miles (Half marathon distance), then what was the point of running 13.1 miles?
It is actually good for your legs, to walk after you run.

It's Saturday

Happy Saturday.

It is Day 29 of the blogathon. It is almost over.
Let's review: this month I went to Savannah, Georgia, watched "Cheaters", read about the movie "The Bling Ring," and read Gloria's blog.
It doesn't get much more exciting.

Wayfarers. Woo hoo

I saw an advertisement for the sunglasses called Wayfarers on tv.

I read about these in the book Less than zero, which was released in 1985.
So I thought, are they coming back in style?

It turns out they've been in style for a long time, as you can see from the Wikipedia article above.
The author of Less Than Zero is Bret Easton Ellis.

Tom Cruise wears Wayfarer sunglasses in the picture below.

Also:
I went to the library. It is not as easy to renew your library card as I thought.

Thanks.

Food Trucks Are Here So You Can Feast Away

There is a new food truck park opening this weekend.

At 2500 W Mockingbird, wander among the traveling culinary "micro-centers" and feast.
The fun starts on Friday at 5 pm.

I'm not really a big fan of food trucks. In fact, sometimes I think, why not just go to a restaurant?
But you can go and eat like it's your last meal.
Thanks,
The Wednesday End.

Read Before Creativity Is Dead

I was reading a magazine article the other day, a headline, and it reminded me of how those in the writing business, especially at newspapers and magazines, constantly have to be creative.

Of course there are many forms of creativity.

however:
It is really hard to think of new and interesting headlines, and, ways to explain things every day. I know from firsthand experience.

So to everyone who does that, or even those who write for a living, kudos!

But, I am also wondering,
Is Creativity Dead?

Thanks, for reading.

A Library Card: Why It Is Still Needed

My library card is torn and falling apart.

(I am vowing to get a new one, and to make sure my information is updated).
I haven't been to the library in at least 3 years.
Why you should feel guilty about not going to the library:
Libraries are diminishing in their importance, due to the internet, Kindles, and other factors related to the fact that it is 2013.
However, you should still go to the library.
At least, update and keep your card handy.

To sum it up: libraries are cool, are "treasures" with books you have not seen yet. Even cooler than half price books.

The End.

Thank you--

Magnetic Poetry: One. Tasty. Blog.

I don't see a point to magnetic poetry.
Most of the words are useless.

Having said that, here is my own magnetic poetry... made up, partially, of ACTUAL magnetic poetry that I have at home:

One Tasty Blog Mmmmm.

new topic:
The other day I was paying at a restaurant. This was in the morning. I just had a small order, toast and coffee. The manager was annoyed--pretty upset-- at the waiter because he didn't put my order in. So someone else had to do it.
(Since I think the waiter is efficient), I could have said something like, "Don't be too upset, his customer service skills are unparalleled."
But I did not.
But, I can say that next time.

Chatting On The Plane, Or, Be Happy With What You Have

Recently I heard two guys chatting on an airplane.
Sitting directly behind me, I learned much about their lives. Both were probably younger than me. Both had a laundry list of possessions, as well as good jobs and other things.

EXAMPLE: "I visited Cape Town recently."
"I live in LA."
"My wife sees nothing but the ocean on her drive to work."
"I'm having a destination wedding."
"I visit Hawaii regularly."
"I just bought a new house in San Antonio."

I was surprised to find at the end that I wasn't really jealous. While possessions are great, I'm not sure if these two giddy co-passengers have lost sight of what's important.
I guess I wasn't jealous because I feel glad to be grateful for what I have, while still working toward the future.

The point: Be grateful for what you have NOW. Do not put all of your energy solely into possessions.

Don't Hesitate, Travel Away.

I almost did not go on my recent trip (to north carolina and Georgia), because of "too many things to do." I thought it would interfere with too many things.
A change of pace... just seeing a new city, can be refreshing. (Of course the verdict is, I'm glad I went. The lesson is that what I lost in 'getting things done,' I made up for by seeing new things). If you have the chance to travel, just go.

Oh Savannah, Won't You Cry For Me? Cause I Come From Alabama With A Banjo On My Knee

Here it is again: I recently went to Savannah, Georgia. (No I did not come from Alabama. I have nothing to do with banjos, and have never associated myself with a banjo).

People seem to like tours in Savannah. I am not really a fan of taking tours when I'm on a vacation or trip. I'd rather just see the city for myself.
The person I was with wanted to take a tour, however, so that is exactly what we did.

The tour guide was excellent, and kept throwing in random facts about Savannah. Anyway, the tours seemed very popular.
So, maybe other tourists don't mind being 'touristy.'

I wanted to go, mostly, after having read the book Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil. Also a movie!
In the book, there is a small part in the beginning where a character named Miss Harty talks about how leisurely, different, and Southern the city is.
The point: I feel honored to have visited this 'leisurely,' unique, and charm-filled city.

The End.
Blessing you, each and every reader.

"And now I know you're dissatisfied with your position and your place
Don't you understand, it's not my problem."
Bob Dylan, from the song "Positively 4th Street." I have always liked Bob Dylan. I heard a similar song today, and just wanted to post.

"You can climb a ladder up to the sun
Or a write a song nobody has sung
Or do something that's never been done
Do something that's never been done."

Email Antics. And, The Oak Cliff Film Fest. It's Not Too Late. Oh, Yeah It Is

I have a friend who suggested divorcing yourself from your devices for a while. (It means electronic devices, including phone and computer).
This was a while ago. In light of this, I am trying various ways to not allow myself to be an email addict.

Two small suggestions (And yes, divorce yourself now... please).

I try to not check email on my phone, if I am near a computer. I've been minimizing the emails I send from my phone.

On Saturday and Sunday, does email need to be checked 3 times a day? I think not.

On to:
You have missed the second (annual) run of the Oak Cliff Film Festival. This was at the Texas Theatre. It ended on Sunday. However, you can catch the third run next year.
Then you, and only you, can say, "I was hanging out at the OCFF."

Is Your Mission Finished?

Writer Richard Bach said:

"Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't."

Millennial Generation, You Are So Lucky?

I was listening to the news the other day, and there was a reference to the "millennials" or generation Y.

I was annoyed at first that I am not part of the millennial generation. (Again, I'm 36).

Then I thought about it, and quickly thought, would I really want to be a millennial? I don't think I would like it.

In summary, I'm pretty old... Not old, but old enough to make the references you see in my blog.

Local Singer Amber Carrington. And, Happy June

Amber Carrington is someone I read about recently, as a contestant on The Voice.
Although she recently forgot some lyrics to a Skid Row song (Gasp), she is still on the show.

When I first read about her I knew nothing, so I looked her up.

The summary: I am not a fan of the big hair, jewelry, or the high-heeled boot things. But, the Dallas area songstress has a strong, strong voice. Even if she does not win on the Voice, her voice will take her far.

Blaine Knows Hair. And, An Awesome Repairman

There is an event tonight called Blaine's Color 6th Annual Hair Color Preview. It is at 7 pm. Sharp.
I don't know who Blaine is. It would not be fun for me, but if you get excited about hair color, then go!
The fee for the hair viewing is 10.00.
The event is at Sisu "resort".

Oh yeah.
I had a repairman visit the house today. He was from Sears home repair. Earlier we had a repairman, from the same place.
During the scheduled window, he did not show up... then he came 3 hours later.
But this repairman was on time, and did everything professionally. The first experience made me feel glad, now, that someone was doing their job.

The point of this is: Byron, you are an awesome repairman.

The Postal Service. And, Juanes in Dallas. Es la verdad.

Hello:

The postal service may not be what you think.

I read about this band, that was recently in Dallas, and wanted to find out more. After 2 tries, I found a song that is pretty good on You tube. The electronic-mania song is called Such Great Heights.

You must be craving Juanes:
Juanes will be in Dallas tomorrow night. It will be at the Verizon theatre in Grand Prairie ... at 8 p.m.
What I know about Juanes, is: I am a big fan. His concert in Bogota recently drew 10,000 people.

The Lady In The Window & My First Blog Post.

hello:

The other day I was at school (Richland College), trying to do a quick transaction. The woman helping me was maybe in her 40s, with large glasses. This was a pretty quick, straightforward thing I had to do.

The area where she works is shielded by glass. So she was shielded by glass. I assume bulletproof. I always feel weird talking to people for long periods THROUGH GLASS.
In the middle of the transaction, she said,

"Are you ok?"
Me: "Yes."
"You seem like you're mad. At me."
Huh???

When she said this, the glass made her look amorphous. There is no good ending to this, except to say, it was very odd.

moving on...

Ed Sheeran: Whine, Whine. And Hold Your Newspaper. Love Your Newspaper.

Hello all:

Today marks the first day of the blogathon. This means I could be writing every day for a month!

New topic:
I heard recently that Ed Sheeran was the opening act for Taylor Swift in Dallas, Texas at Cowboys' Stadium. I did not know about him. So I looked him up. I am not impressed by the whiny British boy.

New topic:
I was in Whataburger. I heard a song, "Gimmie That Girl."
I looked it up, and it is by Joe Nichols. In the song he asks, "Gimmmie that girl in a cute shirt and a pair of jeans..."
And, that's all he needs.
I guess for some people, it doesn't take much to please.

Finally:
Many newspapers have been shutting down, in the past few years.
While people are becoming accustomed to this, unfortunately, let's not lose our penchant for reading the morning paper. When newspapers go, an important part of our culture is dying off. Here is one that is closing. It is a church-related paper, but it is still important. A story in the Dallas Morning News.
Have a great day.
