Kids Writing Connection.

Hi all:
I went to a banquet last night for the KIDS WRITING CONNECTION. The Kids Writing Connection is a program at John F. Kennedy Elementary in Dallas, in which students, usually in 4th or 5th grade, are matched up with adult mentors. During the school year, the children meet with the mentors for 1 hour a week. From the beginning to the end of the school year, the children produce a piece of fiction that goes into a magazine at the end of the year. My child's story was "The Adventures of Billy Bob Jr. and Brittney."
In other years, the Kids Writing Connection banquets have been blossoming with people. This year, only a small amount attended. The 2009 banquet was a testament to the fact that not enough people are participating. There were NOT ENOUGH mentors, NOT ENOUGH parents, and there was also NOT ENOUGH money to have a larger banquet (the organizer of the program told me she did not get as much money from grants as she normally does.)
I know that times are hard, but some things do not cost money. So my question is, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, why the lack of enthusiasm this year? The program has been going on for 15 years; I do not want to see it slowly dying down each year.

I went to Whole Foods today.
