Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. During your visits to my blog you will see postings sometimes about music. I will talk about my favorite artists. I will talk about events and places to go. Since I am currently living at home, I'm North Dallas Homegirl and weblogista (Yes, I've been cracking myself up for 8 years).

"Platica.Textea.Chocea." And, I Was Jealous Of A Girl's Shoes.
Hello:
Back to cause more disgrace.
I am liking the Hispanic nature of this:
I saw a billboard recently that said, "Platica. Textea. Chocea."
It was located on I-30 West going toward downtown.
The translation is: Talk. Text. Crash.
As I stated, I do like the fact that a billboard is geared at the Hispanic community.
But what I want to highlight is the fact that the word "textea" is kind of a made up word.
It has probably been invented since the dawn of texting. I have not heard it frequently used in Spanish.
It made me chuckle! Hardy har har.
Also, I saw a girl who was walking home from school Friday (actually, it was on Abrams Road) who was wearing high-top sneakers, white jeans or pants, and a pink football jersey honoring someboday. Who? Who knows.
She was really young, probably about 8 or 9.
So, what I want to highlight is that I was jealous of her shoes.
High-tops give me an 80's flashback.
Except for seeing them here and there, I did not know they still made them.
Yours in high-top land,
AND, What are you doing for May Day?

Honoring Daisy The Dog. And Welcome to the Big D, Where I Am Running For My Life
Hello
all:
Back to fill those crevices that may or may not exist in your life.
I will be running the Big D half marathon today. Yes, I will be running for my life.
Getting serious for a moment:
I have an elderly neighbor who has been faithfully walking his dog for about 10 years or so. Recently, I saw him walking by himself. He informed me that his dog, Daisy, had died. And he said, "there's been a lot of sadness in our house for the last couple of weeks."
It's pretty strange to get choked up about a dog that is not yours. However, during a time when some people choose to harm their children, or don't love the humans they are supposed to love, it is nice that he cared so much about
his dog. This picture is not exactly what Daisy looked like; however, it is the closest thing I could find.
Music "News": I am deciding if I like the Adele song, "Rumor Has It" enough to add the video. The jury is still out.
THE END.

Who Wants To Smell Your Smelly Feet? And, If Being a Cowboys Cheerleader Is Your Dream, Cheer Away
Back with a tale of disgrace (Remember, I tell it like it is):
I was in a movie theatre last Friday.
A couple of rows in front of me was a young couple, who were perhaps seeing a movie before they were going to do it later (See above disclaimer. I am not intending to offend anyone). Both were MAYBE in their early 20s.
A little bit after the movie started, the girl, who was wearing flip-flops, decided to take off her shoes.
Let me paint a scene, needlessly: she decided to take off her flip flops, then decided to rest her feet casually on the chair in front of her. We could all view her painted toenails.
Within a few rapid seconds...
her date also disrobed his feet, placing his gray (I think!) socks on the chair in front of him.
Here is a carbon copy, my readers, of my face at the time that he was doing it:
The "date" as it were, left his feet on the chair. It all went down during the latest Will Ferrell flick.
Here are my comments: 1.) A movie theatre is a public place. You are not in your living room. Your mom is not the only one watching. 2.) Who wants to smell your smelly feet?? This applies whether they are barefoot or clothed in socks.
In Music News:
(Ode to Female Rappers):
I heard a rap song on the radio recently (I think it was called "Make It Rain," but I am not positive). There is a brief interlude by a female rapper, and after I heard it I was reminded of WHY I liked female rappers while I was growing up (the key here is: all through junior high and also into high school).
Female rappers always seemed brash, and fiesty... in a powerful way!
While I am not saying they are ALL great, these can be good qualities to emulate.
Annoying Songs category: during the past few weeks, I have heard the song "We Are Young," by Fun, more times than I would have liked. Many times it has been on 106.1 FM. I believe I did like it the first time I heard it, but that was a momentary mistake.
Aside from the repetitive, bad 80's song chorus, the track is annoying. It is an unwelcome presence in my day. Fun is not FUN.
The worst outfit I have seen lately: At Richland College recently, a girl was chatting on the phone in the hallway, and I saw her while I was on a break from class. She was wearing: an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt that read, "DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADER," with a tank top underneath, and, tight jeans.
If being a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader is your dream, then go for it. There is no need to torture us with the sweatshirt.
Gentle Readers: ever feel like your space is being invaded by someone who wants to feel closey-closey? I feel that way ALMOST every day.
The End.
goodbye,
Alice

iJump for iPhone ????? And Ugg... Always A Fashion Dilemma
(A CELL PHONE IS JUST A THING USED TO COMMUNICATE WHEN YOU NEED TO... that's what your grandmother and probably my dad would say).
Solid Readers:
Believe it or not...
my habit of checking my iPhone "lately" has interfered with: studying, exercising, and leaving the house.
(And, after distress earlier this semester, I have decided to put a moratorium on facebook and other sites, whenever I want to!
With facebook, I control it, it doesn't CONTROL ME.
Gosh darnit).
The method for me to get myself to stop looking at the iPhone is to say to myself, "stop" and then just put it aside.
I don't think that 20 or 30 years ago, people envisioned that cell phones would become miniature time suckage machines.
Speaking of cell phones:
My cousin Rafael (mentioned in this blog), who is from Mexico, and I, were discussing a pink camouflage wallpaper choice.
When he mentioned that he feels a typical "Texas" outfit always contains: camouflage, jeans, and Ugg boots (The link contains a surprise celebrity that will knock your socks or Uggs off).
I will let you decide on that one, gentle and shrewd reader.
the end.

Should Construction Vehicles Be Painted Pink? And Check Out Kimbra's Rockin Bangs
Hello All:
When I first started writing this blog (2007), I used to say "back with a vengeance" at the beginning of the blog. Now I am thinking, what does "back with a vengeance" really mean????
Does it mean said blogger is writing with a vengeful spirit? Does it mean "I am back, and now I am going to take revenge?"
So now I will just say, I am back. I am here, and not going anywhere!
The other day I was driving.
During a large amount of rush-hour traffic, I noticed a construction vehicle to the right moving with traffic. It was on LBJ (lyndon b. Johnson interstate), and it was majorly distracting. Actually, there were two vehicles at once that were construction-type vehicles. They both happened to have their slow, annoying lights on at the same time. I know that construction vehicles need to warn others of their presence, but....
That day it just seemed more unsafe than safe!
I am not sure if the solution is to paint the construction vehicles pink, so everyone can see them without the flashing lights... however, the only drivers that need flashing lights, on MOST occasions... are ambulance drivers, fire engine drivers, and the police.
Your drive would be much more pleasant.
A "Behind the Scenes With North Dallas Homegirl" featured video may be coming.
( I have not seen any fashion mishaps, except!... High-heel red booties with tight jeans).
The End, Gentle Readers.

I discovered the singer Kimbra today. She has incredibly cool bangs. She has rockin' style. I am even jealous. The video contains 2 songs: Two Weeks and Head Over Heels, which is a cover of (gasp) a Tears for Fears song. She will be playing 2 shows at South by Southwest in Austin, March 14. So, look up the details, and Just Go.

"What Are You Doing? Being a Party Boy?" And "There Were About 50 Cops. It Looked Like They Were Doing Nothing."
"Gentle" Readers!
In honor of Jack White's performance on Saturday Night Live this past Saturday... I am posting this video of, Fell In Love With A Girl by The White Stripes. I am a large, large fan of the group, which is now no more.
Biographical Info, about me, not The White Stripes!:
I first heard this song in 2001, on a Detroit radio station, which is called 89X. The White Stripes hail from Detroit. I loved the song immediately.
Now I am realizing I probably heard the song before it was officially released. No dis to Jack Whites current music... his SNL songs were great... but, I wanted to pay tribute in my own way!I have seen him in concert. My report is that he lives up to the claims of talent.
Overheard recently as I was leaving a class at Richland College about 8 p.m.... the girl on the phone was maybe in her mid to late 20s, with heavily tattooed arms, speaking LOUDLY and kind of annoyingly as she walked to her car: "What are you doing? Being a Party Boy??"
(I kept trying to listen, after this, however she exited too fast for me to continue my research!)
Numerous questions crossed my mind. 1.) Who was the Party Boy? 2.)Why do I not meet Party Boys? and 3.) What party was there on a WEDNESDAY? (The last question perhaps bugged me the most. I am slightly exaggerating, but still).
My dad, who is always ranting and raving about something, and has not really been mentioned on the blog, visited the new Margaret Hunt Hill bridge in Dallas on opening weekend. After returning, he gave his account, which included this documentation:
"There were about 50 Cops there. I don't know what they were doing. It looked like they were doing NOTHING."
Ha.
This is not a dis to any police officers, it is just a comment.
Fashion "No No": Recently I viewed a girl in my class (the class shall remain nameless), wearing polka dot flip flops, neon toenail polish, and what could only be called running shorts.
Although I tried to limit any negative staring, her choice of everything can only be called tragic.
The flip-flops were bad enough, and she should have stopped there. The neon polish made it worse, and the running shorts are in the "I wear anything, including sweatpants if I want to" category. To find out what I think about sweatpants, look into my previous posts.
To sum it up, she was just a: No. No. No.
The End.
Simply,
ndh

what firefighters do in their spare time and the Cowtown Marathon
After running the Cowtown half marathon yesterday, I came to a conclusion before the race: I was running back and forth, trying to get warmed up. The best thing to do before a 1/2 marathon, is run or jog, and PRAY.
Also, I noticed a woman during the run, with a running shirt stating on the back: Hot Mess Hoodlums. I am confused about people trying to incorporate their own hotness into their running goals, or into the name of their "running group."
Also, at one point there was a Tejano Dj Service who was motivating runners along the route. As one runner passed, the Dj, or his friend--I can't remember--shouted to a runner, "Good job, Essay!"
I enjoyed the "YMCA" that he was playing.
I have not posted a video in a while. Here is a special treat. The video is only 40 seconds long. It is some firefighters dancing to a song by Soulja Boy. I have not heard the sound yet, but going by the video, it should be interesting!
THE END,

"I Love Sweater Dresses In The Winter." And, "My Boy's On His Way!"
Hello Graceful Readers:
A cheesy friend said to me somewhat recently, while flipping through a catalog containing sweater dresses, "I love sweater dresses in the winter."
I nodded smilingly and looked at the catalog, but I was secretly thinking, I hate sweater dresses! They are a remnant of the past, in a bad way!
However, I did see a sweater dress the other day, in a catalog, that was completely wearable.
So in honor of the cheesy friend here is a picture of a sweater-y dress, casual, YET something your grandmother would make (it is not the same one I saw and liked):
I have not reported on anything "overheard" or anything that I have witnessed lately. So: I was leaving Parkland Hospital last Sunday. As I strained to hear more, a man (a patient) was stating loudly to a friend (I think also a patient, or if not, just a passerby), "My boy's on his way." And, "My girl's coming tomorrow."
The man was perhaps in his 30s, in a wheelchair, and with a not-thought-out haircut and a mustache.
Although I got into my car very slowly, that was all I heard. I wondered: why did he need "his boy" and his "girl"? Also, what would his "girl" look like if I saw her?
And, was there going to be a smackdown at the hospital??
Khloe Kardashian and her husband Lamar Odom are living in Dallas (probably not North Dallas!!) and they are filming their reality show here. I do not have much to say about this, except, my friend Gloria recently saw Khloe at a Dallas Mavericks basketball game. Reportedly, she was texting...the whole time!
I cannot think of much to say to the boring, unthrilling Khloe, so I guess here is my statement: "Welcome, texting pro."
Goodbye,
Alice

Please check out this cool book, self-published by a doctor in Dallas.
Check out these very simple gold earrings to mix and match.
One more dress! It is actually a sweater dress.
