Dear Loyal Readers:
Every time I walk or drive by the old Shell gas station on 635 and Preston and I see the bulldozers and construction workers tearing it up, I get pissed off because Moosey (employee from Ethiopia) is no longer there. Also, I get pissed off because everything is closing these days.
At the Grammys on Sunday, Coldplay won three awards. The Brit rockers won Best Rock Album for Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. Coldplay also won Song of the Year for Viva La Vida, and Best Pop Performance by Duo or Group. The Dallas Morning News called them an "art rock" band in Monday's newspaper. W'sup with that, Mario Tarradell? What is "art rock" about Coldplay, and what does "art rock" mean anyway. Coldplay is more of a stone cold rock band. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, it's nice to invent new labels for no reason.
Anyway, Props to Coldplay for winning so many awards.
I got a letter from the Peace Corps:
"Dear Alice,
Thank you for your application to become a Peace Corps Volunteer and for your willingness to give two years of your life in service to others around the world. You are one of over 12,000 Americans this year who have applied for approximately 3,600 Peace Corps Volunteer assignments available worldwide." Yes, there is more to the letter but this is the most interesting part.
People are clamoring for Peace Corps positions and Half Price Books (on Preston Rd. and Dilbeck Rd.) is not even hiring. What is this world coming to??
A little birdie told me I need to get my sh** together. Even though I told the little birdie I need to get my sh** together first, the little birdie's words are haunting me. You know how sometimes someone says something to you and the word or words just won't go away? In this case, it is like there is a giant billboard haunting me. Like spiky words in my life.
Also I spoke to my old editor recently who said, "what have you been doing since you left San Angelo?" ( I left there in 2004). There is no better way to quickly assess the last five years than having somebody ask you what you've been doing for the last five years. Ahhhhh, summing up your accomplishments for the last five years, isn't it blissful????????????????????????????????????????????????? question mark overkill.
By the way, at the Grammy's Alison Krauss had HUGE hair. I do not listen to her music, nor do I know any of her songs.
Remember, Life's a B**** and then you die. Ok, I am not so cynical, but sometimes it's true. I like saying this phrase when it is useful. Welcome to the special swearing edition of my blog.
Chillax,
Peace,
bbb
Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. During your visits to my blog you will see postings sometimes about music. I will talk about my favorite artists. I will talk about events and places to go. Since I am currently living at home, I'm North Dallas Homegirl and weblogista (Yes, I've been cracking myself up for 8 years).

Scary Gas Station Update and Where's Moosey?
Hi,
For those of you anxiously following, I went to the scary gas station today. I saw one of the Indian guys that usually works there, I think he recognized me. I wanted to take a photo for this blog but the other Indian guy would make a better photo, and he was not there.
The Shell station on 635 (LBJ Freeway) and Preston Rd. closed. Is everything closing these days?? yes. Yes, yes, and yes.
There is a guy who used to work there (Shell station) named Moosey (sp?), and when I saw that the gas station had closed, I was thinking, where's Moosey? Even though he is from Ethiopia I'm sure he will find another job. Is everyone who works in a gas station from Ethiopia? No, they are also from India.
I also went to Family Dollar. It was my shopping for the day.
Chillax and chill on,
Bow down to Regina Spektor, (been listening to her),

Glad I didn't get married in high school
Dear Loyal, Gentle readers:
The other day (Thursday) I was eating lunch at my mom's clinic (DeHaro clinic in Oak Cliff) and this woman who is a cashier in the pharmacy started talking to me. She asked me if I was married and seemed really curious. I told her I wasn't (one day! that is what I always say) and she told me (she was about 38 or 39) she got married in high school and has 3 kids. I was kind of thinking to myself, I'm glad I didn't get married in high school and that I don't have 3 kids by now. We talked about some other stuff but that was the most interesting part. YOU get the benefit.
MUSIC News 'n Views: (don't you like how I just invented that? Maybe I will make it a regular entry): I have been listening to MC LYTE, Bad as I Wanna Be. I know I have blogged about the album before, but I still like it, so there! In fact, last night I listened as I went to sleep. "Have U Ever" is a good song and so is "Cold Rock a Party." I highly recommend buying it and playing it as much as humanly possible.
I have also been listening to Shakira (her very first album). I know it is old but I really love the first song (the song that put her on the map!), "Estoy Aqui." I have been listening to that over and over. Shakira lovers, unite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! exclamation mark overkill. Now you have a little insight into what's in the changer (why do magazines and newspapers always have a column titled, "What's in the changer"? Does everyone have a changer?) Now I dare you to tell me what's in your changer.
Have to go and SLEEP (early SAt. night, how tragic yet January-ish).
Remember, that's the way the cookie crumbles, and it keeps crumbling, and crumbling, and crumbling away. Crumble! Crumble! Crumble! Crumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! exclamation mark overkill.
bow down to shakes from McDonalds,
peace,
bbb/Alice

Blogging on a Thursday ... welcome to the hump of my day--I call this the hump of my day because it's like the flat, boring part of my day. It seems to happen about once a day.

Belly Button Update and other stuff, my aim is to please
Dear Loyal Readers:
Overheard in Starbucks today (corner of Preston and Alpha): "I got my belly button pierced in Junior High. I wanted to do it so bad I did it in the school bathroom." Yuck! From a Barista (maybe she was Asian?) talking to a guy with a lot of tattoos. The guy said he had done at least one of them himself, which I guess prompted the comment from the belly-button barista.
I was at McDonalds (on Beltline Rd., near Preston) last Wed. and wrote this blog post out while I was there. To make it more authentic (you are damn lucky), I will just copy it directly (written at 8:35 a.m.--I was eating a McGriddles sandwich--yes I go to McD's that early): This woman just walked in with a see-through purse. Does she want everyone to see what's in her purse? I checked and there's nothing exciting (not very much in there at all). The contents of my purse are more exciting. Yes, believe it or not, NDH has an exciting purse. If you pay me I will show you the contents!
The inauguration is tomorrow. Oh well, I will not be there. I will eat a Barack Obama cupcake or something.
I have been listening to:
The Clash, The Essential Clash. I never really got into them before, but a friend just loaned me their CD. It is a 2-disc set, (more for your pleasure!) On Disc 1, I love Track 19, Groovy Times. Track 17 has a funny name: Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad. Proceed to your nearest record store (maybe Good Records on Greenville Avenue?????????????--your welcome for the plug) and buy it. It's an 80's rockin' party treat. Or a guilty pleasure. Sort of like Twix bars and diet Pepsi. Oops! that's my GUILTY PLEASURE. MY BAD.
Bow down to The Clash, Twix bars and cupcakes,
Alice

Rosary Monday and Neneh Cherry--is she still doing anything these days??
Hi Blogger Friends:
The other day I was in Hacienda Chichen Itza, a Mexican restaurant and panaderia (look it up--Mexican bakery) on Greenville Avenue , and this boy who was helping me, about 16 or 17 years old, had a cool rosary around his neck. I was going to tell him I liked it but I was too busy trying to balance my Rosca de Reyes and my Target purse.
I won a book at a business book synopsis group Friday (First Fridays, it meets at the Park Cities Club in Dallas). It's called Outliers, by Macolm Gladwell. Yay, it is my homework for the next week.
I heard that song Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry and I was totally jammin. I heard it this week while I was driving around. I like the line about: "wearin' padded bra, suckin beer through a straw." I think I was in 6th grade when that song came out. Ahhhhh, Neneh Cherry memories. I used to have her album.
ok, going to go bc I have to run in the morning.

Don't expect a free meal from Denny's.
Trying to think of a Super Chillsauce blog for Y'all:
Here is my fish oil story, then I will tell a Denny's story (aren't you lucky?????). I was at Whole Foods (Greenville Avenue store) on New Year's Eve, and I asked a guy where the fish oil was (I have heard it is good for the brain and for concentration) and he led me to another girl. When I told her I wanted fish oil, she said, "OK, are you looking for+
I told her I was looking just to get it down. Then she started blabbing for 2 hours on the different types of fish oil. I really wasn't looking for a lot of help, just to find out where in the store it was. Before I grabbed my fish oil (the smallest package they had) and left, she gave me a "Word to the Wise": take it with food, so that you don't feel it coming back up in any way. Word to the Wise, Word to the Wise.
My birthday was Thursday. (Yes, I am now 32--is there anything momentous that goes along with being 32? Not really. BTW I am the same age as Sarah Michelle Gellar). I went to Denny's on I-75 near Royal Lane with my parents. I told the waitress it was my birthday, thinking it would score me a free meal. The waitress said, "Happy Birthday!" in a cheery way. Great, but not exactly all that I was hoping for. I did not get a free meal, and did not realize until after I left that they had charged my dad for the meal. Also, the French Toast I ordered looked like it was just thrown on the plate. Maybe the cook was in a hurry, or maybe he does not like making French Toast.?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Question mark overkill.
My birthday was ok otherwise. I got a promise of a car and some clothes from my mom, and also some money, nice cards and a delicious cake.
Um, that's all for now folks. Out with the old, in with the new and exciting.
Bow down to Coldplay (and if you have not bought Viva La Vida yet, please go and buy it). Coldplay is not new but they are exciting.
