in mourning

Dear Blogger Friends:
I am in mourning because CD World closed. I went there Sat. (Greenville Avenue store) to get a CD cleaned (my Faux Fox CD) and to get an oasis CD and it was closed; there was a sign on the door saying they had closed for good. This is unfair. I am going to be mourning for a while. I liked both stores--I think I liked the Greenville Avenue store more, though. Dallas will be lacking an important institution forever. R.I.P. CD World.

I went to the state fair the other day. I'm a funnel cake eating mama, and I also tried Ropa Vieja con Arroz Blanco (meat with rice) from the Cuban stand. Both items I tried at the fair were delicious. I didn't know what to get from the stand so i got this.

I went to Mi Escuelita Monday (preschool where I sub), and during lunch I overheard a conversation between one teacher (don't know her name) and Miss Brazil. The teacher who remains nameless said that she already has one child and that she got her tubes "tied, cut and burned" so that she doesn't have any more children. She elaborated more but that is the main crux of what she was saying. Nice lunchtime conversation. Good thing I was only eating Lunchables.

I saw 80 Tony Romo jerseys at the state fair the other day. Also, Jessica Simpson has a new perfume, "Fancy." I saw on ET tonight that she said she wants it to smell like a "southern night." Is this what Tony Romo smells at night???????????????????????????????????????????????? I will not be buying her perfume or going near it.

The Coldplay concert Nov. 19 at the American Airlines Center is sold out. I found out last week. It sucks, I have to look for tickets on Craigslist.
going to go now,
bow down to funnel cakes, Coldplay and Oasis,
stay chill,
alice

I'm only happy when it rains and Ne-Yo Rocks: Come Closer

i'm only happy when it rains... seriously, this is not to sound like the Garbage song, but I love the rain. I love how it looks and I love feeling it on my face and I love watching it (when I'm inside). It's raining right now, and I was going for a walk and I just thought of that song. you, blogger fans, get the benefit of my Rain Walk observations. I'm also happy when I listen to Alkaline Trio.

The other day I was in Terminal D of Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (international terminal) picking up my dad, and I was in the line for Au Bon Pain (it was the only place where you could get food) and this is what I heard (from a girl behind me, in her early 20s, talking to her friend): "She's just crazy. I think she's bipolar, and I mean that in a nice way." I wanted to turn around and say something but I didn't. Those are just the facts ma'am, just the facts.

Also at the international terminal that day: I was buying a Cosmo from the Newsstand and the guy working there (who was from Egypt) told me I looked nice. Lauren Conrad is on the cover of Cosmo and he pointed to the magazine and asked me if I liked her, and I said yes, even though I don't, but at least she's on the cover of Cosmo, and he said, "she looks nice, like you." So that was my moment of being compared to Lauren Conrad.

I like that song by Ne-Yo, "Closer." I also like Ne-Yo. If you haven't heard of him, look him up. One site is: http://www.yearofthegentleman.com.

I hate going to the dentist. I went Monday, and I just hate going and having them stick things in your mouth. Having weird utensils stuck in your mouth is not a pleasant experience.

There is a really good book called The Future Has A Past, by J. California Cooper. I read it a long time ago but just dug it up recently. So grab a copy if you get a chance. In fact, buy it!! Now.

Being happy when it rains,

bbb/Alice

Dr. Ross' info and praying to my napkin holder

I was praying to my napkin holder (not kneeling in front of it, just looking at it and praying--there is a picture of Jesus on it) that I would write a good blog, so here goes: (may the napkin holder be with me):
I was in the dentist's office today and my dentist, Dr. Louis Ross (who always goes off on tangents) started talking about how he was on a softball trip recently with his teenage daughter and a bunch of teenage girls, and how one of the girls on the bus was lactose intolerant and had eaten a bunch of cheese and drank milk, and she kept farting the whole way. People always tell me funny things. yay, NDH always gets the gossip.
I think the guy who sits next to me in my photography class has a mistress. He has a blackberry and it is always going off (he never answers it--he keeps it on vibrate). He's older (maybe in his 40s) and v. chubby. anyway, this is just my observation. I haven't said probably more than one sentence to him.
The other day, I got my hair cut at Salon on the Creek in Coppell, and my hairstylist informed me that she had indigestion because she had eaten spicy fish and broccoli for lunch. It was TMI, but then again, I asked.
You must buy the album This Is Not the World by the Futureheads--an awesome album I am drooling over. I bought it in England, and when I asked for The Futureheads at the record store (I forgot the name--something like Zassi records) the guy actually knew what I was talking about. They are from England and sometimes people here haven't heard of them. Please buy the album, you won't be dissapointed.
Also when I got my hair cut the other day, I was going to go almost blonde but the hairdresser talked me out of it (do blondes have more fun??) But I have a new phrase: short-haired girls do HAVE MORE FUN. way more fun.
enjoy the word super chillsauce and Big Bite hot dogs from
7-11.
peace,
blogging dental patient

Bow down to the Futureheads.

crabby chillsauce, yahoo! pants (don't wear) and faux fox

I am going on a trip (to England) today, and my parents are being stressed about the trip. The other day my dad was stressed because my mom hijacked the plans, cancelled the rental car and decided to buy train tickets for everyone. They always get like this before a big trip or big event. I am glad I am going on the trip, but their stressed-ness makes me say, "whoa! I don't want your crabby chillsauce to make me stressed!!" Ok, 'nuff said.
The other day I was in CVS and this guy (maybe in his early-to-mid-
20s) walked in with pajama pants with the Yahoo! drink logo on them. This reminded me that I have a Yahoo! drink at home that I have not tried yet. But I digress. NOTE TO GUYS ( I would underline if I knew how): Do not wear your pajama pants to the drugstore, not even if they say Yahoo! on them. I think he also had a matching shirt.
I have not received my economic stimulus check from the IRS yet. I called them the other day but they put me on hold for a really long time and I need to call back. HEY IRS: can I please get my economic stimulus check so my finances can be stimulated????????????????????????????????????????
I bought the Faux Fox CD, All That Remains and am slathering over it. Really good, I was listening to it last night while I was packing. Here is their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/fisforfaux. The CD only has a few songs ( I think it has 8 or so) but it's still good.

I need to change my hair. (interesting tidbit for y'all).
Eating scones and crumpets soon,

super chillsauce and Faux Fox--You are hypnotized into being addicted to this blog

doing some yoga trying to think of a super chillsauce blog for y'all. HOld on to your hats:
On Sat. (Sept. 13) I went to Good REcords on Lower Greenville to see the Faux Fox show. Also on the ticket was Gun Gun--Darktown Strutters was supposed to be there but they didn't show up because of the remnants of Hurricane Ike.
Wisely, Good Rec's handed out cans of Coors Original. However, in my opinion, it would have been more delicious to have a keg. At past events like this, they've had kegs.
Faux Fox rocked the unique record retailer, and lead singer George Quartz did whatever it took to get the crowd groovin'--including writhing on the floor. He wore a large patchwork shirt with a mysterious hood the whole time. And yellow loafers (the loafers were kind of grungy-looking). Julius Preston on keyboard, Edward Setina on bass, and Wesley Crusher on drum kit also rocked it out. IN between sets, Quartz encouraged Preston to do slam poetry but he refused. I'm planning on getting their new album (it's on my To-do list).
Gun GUn was ok. Lisa Hardaway and Ashley Cromeens comprise the group. I liked the second song they played (don't know the name of it). There were some awkward moments in the store while Cromeens adjusted her keyboard. The crowd didn't seem too into their show, maybe they were slatheringly waiting for Faux Fox. At the end I asked Hardaway if they had any CDs and she said they did not have anything recorded yet.
Overall, 'twas a good night. At the end of the night this guy who had been taking photos the whole time asked if I had a Flick'r site and I said no. He gave me a card with his Flick'r site on it, and I was thinking to myself: MUST GET A FLICK'R SITE (another thing on my To-Do list).
Please check out this site: www.jakeandamir.com. It is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny.
Oh, and I like the phrase super chillsauce. There should be a whole TV station devoted to the phrase super chillsauce. Just a station that would show the wonderful phrase over and over. I would watch it frequently. Ok, enough blabbing.
Bow down to Faux Fox,
Try to work super chillsauce into your normal everyday conversation,
alice

Nina Simone

Tuesday I was in the dentist's office, and my dentist has a painting of black heroes on the wall. I was looking at the figure of Sojourner Truth--when I was younger ( much younger) I read a book about her and I liked it and was really inspired about her. Anyway I am thinking of starting my own business and Sojourner seemed to be saying, "you can do it!!" Is that cheesy??? Oh well, I always have weird moments like that.
Well, please go buy NINA SIMONE, How It Feels to Be Free. Or the blues gods will be mad.
peace,
bbb

welcome to another mordantly funny blog.

I wish the dental hygenist or gas station guy or Tom Thumb checker-outer could tell me the secret to happiness. I find myself thinking this when I am out and about. yay, now you know my innermost thoughts.
trying to be my most authentic self, tired, and have toastmasters tomorrow. Why do they get up so early? I don't know but its good for me so i don't care.

2 quotes

Here are 2 quotes that I like: (Both of them can be found at the beginning of the book Citizen Girl by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus).

I'm not using block quotes because its faster this way.

"... I went to my adviser and told her of the fears that were choking me. 'You feel like an imposter?' she asked. 'Don't worry about it. All smart women feel that way.' "

--Peggy Orenstein

"I wanna be a cowboy, baby."

--Kid Rock (big ups to Kid Rock for being from Detroit. I think he is from Romeo).

Anyway I had some other stuff I was going to write but I am tired so you will just have to miss out. I'm so cheeky. BTW, this is Labor Day. Most of the people I have seen LABORING have been Mexican. I think they deserve a day off too. (They as in we, I am Mexican too). At least I got the day off.
Go buy Coldplay.
I love my insouciance,
bbb
p.s. I do not like Sarah Palin. I am going to put this in my political blog. http://wwwpacksapunch.blogspot.com.
