What fun it is bringing a crowd!
With Garth Brooks' (bio here) slate of concerts at the American Airlines Center in September, you can bring all your current relatives, including buying tickets for those ancestors who have passed away!
Mr. Brooks will invade Dallas with 7 concerts.
For something not Garth Brooks-y, try the Gorilla vs Bear "5" concert at the Granada theater, Friday July 31. (The theater is at 3524 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75206. Their phone is 214-824-9933.) While there you can catch Tei Shi (music here), who was actually born in Argentina, and whose real name is Valerie. If you call her Valerie, she may not respond.
By the way, the concert is sold out. My only suggestion is bring a gorilla or a bear & they may let you in.
You can chase the concert all the way to Austin, for they will be there next.
Quick Movie Rundown: (however delayed...)
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl: Bizarre, also smartly done.
Trainwreck: See how a vapid woman becomes less vapid. (Sounds whiny, but it was an entertaining movie).
Worth watching, if only for the random things that come out of Amy Schumer's mouth.
The End.
thanks!
Welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere. During your visits to my blog you will see postings sometimes about music. I will talk about my favorite artists. I will talk about events and places to go. Since I am currently living at home, I'm North Dallas Homegirl and weblogista (Yes, I've been cracking myself up for 8 years).

Soon You'll Be Saying, "Heck Yeah, I Made My Own Soap"
Say "Laura Ingalls Wilder" if you consider yourself an "urban homesteader." A local market/quirky things place has unveiled the Urban Homesteading 2015 Summer series. (Who hasn't had a secret urge to pickle??)
This Sunday, (June 28) make YOUR OWN soap from 2 until 4 p.m. (Not only will you feel accomplished for taking a shower! you'll feel extra cool for making the darn soap.) The workshop is at Maker's Connect, 10242 E. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas.
With a name like Lee-Lonn... well I'm not sure what the rest of that is, but it was fun to write. Take a listen to the Houston singer's song. (The link is for a Youtube video). His syrupy voice will at least make you hungry for some pancakes!
If you want to read an interview with Mr. Lonn himeself, click here. (From the Houston Press.)

Soon Dallas will bring new meaning to the words 'hot flash.'
Thanks for the patience!!!

Four Things To Do This Memorial Day, Because I Could Not Think Of Five
Here are some oh-so useful things to do:
1. Go on an adventure: Call an old friend, go somewhere you haven't been, binge-watch reality television.. (for kicks try Weather Nation.
It's not reality television.)
2. Do a digital cleanup: Delete old accounts you don't need, delete photos you no longer need.
Your storage space, and the Geek Squad will thank you!
3. Plan your next trip to Recycle Revolution. The Dallas one-stop-shop takes a bunch of items that you can't dump in the usual recycling bin, such as electronics, VHS tapes, and styrofoam. You can take the ex-valuables to: 7600 Sovereign Row, Dallas, TX 75247. Their number is 214-566-3025.
4. Plan your Tuesday! Due to an overwhelming amount of barbeque events, family gatherings, and yes, I know it's MEMORIAL day, but, even alcohol-- Tuesday often gets forgotten about. Don't ignore poor little Tuesday this year!!!
See you in about a month.
You're welcome.

Homegrown Fest Is Upon Us ... Shakey Graves Gravely Arrives
May 9 is the Homegrown Fest at Dallas' Main Street Garden park, 1902 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75201.
The "doors" open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets will cost you 33.00, according to the website!
Just follow the sounds of Shakey Graves...

Shakey Graves is from Austin.
Itching to fill that blank spot on your calendar that would be Friday, July 17?

The rap duo from Mississippi is interesting, and yes, I thought you--yes YOU in the Journey T-shirt--might want to attend. Nicki Minaj will also be in attendance.
Ah, the fun starts at 7 p.m.

Don't Photo Bomb At The Bomb Factory, And Sweet Rides
I know, I know... you're hungry for more Erykah Badu.
Catch her tomorrow night at the Bomb Factory, a new Dallas venue. It is at 2713 Canton Street ... in Deep Ellum, but you knew that!
While not an entirely new concert location, the local alternative weekly states Badu's appearance will be the venue's "first show since the '90s." Good thing, because Erykah Badu's co-performer Sarah Jaffe, was a 'young pup' for most of the 90s.
If that show is not your thing, what's better than viewing "ultraluxury" (according to the Dallas Morning News) cars at the Dallas Auto Show.
While it may not be the Detroit Auto Show, you can still smell the "fresh" new car smell. At the Kay bailey hutchison Convention Center, 650 S. Griffin St, today until Sunday.

Be Sword-y.
February 28 happens to be World Sword Swallower day.
If you mosey to Ripley's Believe it or Not museum (601 East Palace Pkwy, Grand Prairie TX 75050, 972-263-2391), at 2:28 pm mind you, you may witness such a feat! Leaves a lump in my throat.
New topic: The Districts will keep you occupied. They are a--dare I say--unique band.
The End. thanks!

MLK Mayhem..
Tomorrow is Martin Luther King Jr Day.
Without further dilly-dallying, why don't you:
1. See Selma.
2. Read and learn (Whoa, there's a shocker.) about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In PDF form, here is a copy of an original letter he wrote in 1963, from the Birmingham, Alabama Jail.
3. Plan for next year's MLK day. Many events take place BEFORE MLK day. Good to know!
4. Be at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and Lamar Streets in Dallas, TX at 10 a.m., tomorrow for a parade. Following will be an all-around fun time and "festival" until 5 p.m. It is sponsored by the Elite News, a community publication.
Also there will be a play at 7 pm at the Dallas City Performance Hall. It is called The 67th Book of the Bible. Students are free with an identification, for adults it is $20.
(The play is based on a writing of Dr. King's while in the Birmingham, Ala. jail).

See you around February 19th!
Looking for a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night meal? Try Cafe Momentum. You may only go between 5 and 9 pm, and it is located at 1510 Pacific Street in Dallas, TX. Their number is 214-303-1234. Don't forget p=mv.

Work Your Butt Off... And For $35 You Can See George Quartz
It is highly inappropriate to give you a New Year's message when it is January 9. So here's my arresting proverb:
Be grateful. Find small things to be grateful for.
Go work your butt off this year.
While a confusing all-encompassing event broadcasting "culture," "fashion," food, art and music, (we're OK with the last 3), Artopia prances into Dallas Saturday January 17. Luckily, the venue is Centennial Hall at Fair Park. The address is 1001 Washington St, Dallas TX 75210. Tickets begin at 35.00, but then they rise.
The good news is, sometime between 8 pm and 11 pm, you can catch George Quartz. In the interest of full disclosure, the Dallas artist had a blog called La Maladie Tropical. Mysteriously, there have been no posts since about four years ago.

Tropically, see you in about a month!!
Thanks for the 2015 patience.
