post turkey day rants

y'all:
Friday moanin' here:
everyone who reads this, you should check out: www.myspace.com/fizzydinopop.(not sure how to insert a link) A v. good band. They are from Denton, and this guy from the band played some of his music for me and it was really good. It's labeled as punk/pop but I thought it was more like cool electronic music.
I keep hearing the song "Bust A Move" on the radio, maybe this is because I am always listening to 107.5 and they seem to have it on their regular playlist, but this is beside the point. why do I keep hearing it??? Maybe God is trying to tell me to Bust A Move. If it improved NDH's love life then that would be a good thing. One time I was even dancing in my car to Bust a move.
the other day I was in Starbucks and I saw a girl dressed in a clown-like dress. no, really like she was a professional clown, I'm not just saying it was a clown-like dress. interesting attire.
Oh, if you go to 7-11 you should try the "Naked" smoothies... they are really good; been meaning to write this for a while. I tried one with a pineapple/citrus flavor, I can't remember exactly which flavor it was.

tragic day--its the demise of kharma

blogger friends:

it is a tragic day, bc Kharma cafe is closing. It is going to close on Halloween (scaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaary!) and be replaced by an ugly bookstore. So if you live in Denton no more coffees, etc. etc. People wrote ironic comments all over the walls and I loved reading them.
its truly a tragic day. going to go mourn,

Sewing is Fun

hi yall,
blogging brunette bombshell did not leave you. I've just been busy.
Monday moanin' here: when I was younger and I used to read the Detroit Free Press there was a columnist (Bob Talbert) who always used to use the term "Monday moanin'" when he wrote a column on Monday (duh). So here's the Monday moanin': The other day I was in Kharma Cafe, a cool coffee shop in Denton known for its tight jeans and ironic outfits, and I commented to the boy working there, who had a black hat, glasses and a red bandanna up to his eyeballs (which he took off) that I liked his pants.
"Thanks, I spent a lot of time on them," he commented about the flowery and silky slacks.
Impressed that he made them himself, I told him that I couldn't sew, to which he just gave me a look that said, "poor you."
Speaking of MIA, who (whom?) I blogged about last time, she will be in my stomping grounds to sign autographs--at Good Records. She'll be there Sun. Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. NDH plans to attend. Later she'll do a show at the House of Blues.
going to go eat now, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase post some comments if you read this.

Go Buy MIA

Hi yall:

I just wanted you to know I just discovered MIA. I saw her at AUstin City Limits (which I will blog more about)--and she rocks. I'm not sure where she is from but I think Jamaica.
At CD World (favorite hangout) they told me her CD is selling like hotcakes.
Anyway go get it and maybe you can listen to it when you work out (which I won't be doing but maybe you can).

doma, shrink

my shrink said no to the interview, his quote was, "you can talk about me, you can say, 'My psychiatrist is a jerk, I like my psychiatrist, etc.'" So, I like my psychiatrist. Anyway I will not be bringing you any tales of Prozac or Paxil from him. Sorry.
The Dallas Observer Music Awards were just announced last week. I approve of the readers' choice for Musician of the Year, Christ HOlt. Very talented and a nice guy. I approve of the choice for Best Act in Town, Best Male Singer (Cory Watson), Best Instrumentalist (Eddie Thomas) and Best Album (Movements): Black Tie Dynasty. If you've read the earlier review you won't be surprised. Yay for Black Tie. For Best Web site/blog... hello? what about the content you are reading right now??? NDH is offended. Yay to The Granada Theatre for being selected best Live Music Venue. As far as some of the other categories, I have not heard of some of the awardees. I do like The Adventure Club on 102.1, chosen as Best Radio Show, with host Josh Venable.
Have to go watch an important TV show.
Bow down to the granada,

elliott smith

blogging brunette bombshell is back... I promised some elliott smith and here it is: I recently purchased New Moon from (you guessed it) CD World in Addison. Disc 1: My favorite song is #3, High Times--the crescendo up to the chorus is delicious. On Disc 2, my favorite song is #9 Pretty Mary K (other version). Although the guy at CD World gave it a rave review, I feel that some of the songs sound the same. I adore some of his extremely honest lyrics though. This album is made up of his B-sides and unknown tracks--
elliott committed suicide in October 2003. I like the album cover, bright blue with a city scene. On the inside of the CD there is a huge photo of Elliott looking confused, or maybe he's just bored. The CD is filled with essays that include intricate details about E. from those who knew him.
By the by, I made Cheesy Sleazy--it was delicious.
going to hit the sack.

salad people

yesterday i was in B&N (Beltline and Preston) and I saw this man sit down next to me with a huge tupperware thing of salad... then his g-friend proceeded to sit down next to him and eat the salad with him. This left me with a myriad of questions... was it leftover from one of their work lunches? Is it some kind of ritual? ... hmmmm.... I was sitting next to them pondering. They even had salad dressing, the kind that spritzes. I was not able to fully see the contents of the salad, just the lettuce and maybe some tomatoe or something.
Since this is my blog I am going to review the White Stripes' latest album, Icky Thump. And since its my blog I am going to write it however I want. Ha ha. If you get their album (which kicks ass) you must proceed directly to #4, Conquest, and then #13, Effect and Cause (which I am foaming at the mouth over). The Stripes have not let us down with a jam-packed (is that a cliche?) album.
The Stripes seem to have gone Mexican--on their album cover they are wearing Mariachi uniforms (or at least thats what it looks like). W'sup with that? NDH is a promoter of Latino culture, but it seems odd on the Stripes. Some of the songs on the album are too hard rocking for me, but overall, I like it. One lyric that I think is funny from 300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues: "I'm getting hard on myself/ sitting in my easy chair/ Well there's three people in the mirror and I'm wondering which one of them I should choose."
Please, please, do NDH a favor and proceed to your nearest version of CD World and pick up Icky Thump. Go, blogger fan, go, go, go, go!
Before I go, please pick up a copy of this new cookbook: "I Like Food, Food Tastes Good" by Kara Zuaro. There are recipes from many bands in there as well as very funny comments. I want to make Cheesy Sleazy.
Well, NDH is getting very tired, so must turn in on this lonely Fri. night.
Groovin on Stripes-ness,
NDH
p.s. look forward next time to Elliott Smith. I just picked up his new album.

Black Tie Dynasty at The Parish

Okay, typing this for the third time...

"Cory Watson's hot," someone shouted during Black Tie Dynasty's set at The Parish July 21 on Sixth Street in Austin. I believe dees ees called stating the obvious.

There was nothing unusual about BTD's set in Austin--except for how few people were there. There was a good crowd--its' not like the place was bare--just not as many as there would have been at a Dallas show. Where's the love, Austinites????????? Cory, Brian, Blake and Eddie put on a good show. Not bad for a band that grew out of humble beginnings at a Lewisville sports bar. They had a few core fans in the front (incl. me) screaming their asses off; they also had some cool-looking fans in the back just taking it all in.

The crowd was a good mix--both trendy Austinites and preppy-looking guys and gals made an appearance. Hal Samples was snapping individual and group photos which he later put on his web site.

Back to the show: the band played mostly songs from their latest album, "Movements." Blake McWhorter played bass like there was no tomorrow. Most fans in the front seemed like longtime fans who had come specifically for the show. The ones in the back had yet to know BTD's greatness.

Shanghai 5, who went on right before BTD, had a few good songs. I had never seen them before. Their music was sort of fun, blues-y and ballad-y all at once. I took a business card with their myspace page on it but was too cheap to buy the album.

The Tah Dahs, who went on right before Shanghai 5, were goofy and silly. I don't remember too much about the act itself--I was too busy looking at lead singer Roy Ivy's sexy chest.

I had a blast at the show--my fave cut during BTD's set was "Tender." I would def. visit The Parish again--its a great place to worship your favorite artist.
